About The Aviator (Doug Blackmore)
After graduating from high school, Doug Blackmore went on to obtain a diploma from Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology in the early 80s. This lead to a job pumping gas at an all-night gas station - not ideal for the new father.
Doug re-trained as a computer programmer at Control Data Institute. This six-month crash course lead to a suitable, but low-paying job in a computer department. In order to improve his financial situation, Doug studied at York University's Atkinson College at night, while raising a new born son and working at his full time job in computers.
Graduating from York University in the late 80s with a Bachelor of Administrative Studies degree, Doug went on to a lengthily career at a large Canadian software company.
One day the phone rang, and it was an old school mate from the high school band - they were holding a reunion. A few months after the reunion, enthusiastic participants formed the Alumni Swing Band, later to be renamed the Niagara Express Big Band and operated by the Pelham Community Big Band as a charity. In this band, Doug was the lead trombone player, and also the arranger, sound technician, web master, and sponsor. The band leader, Wayne Brown, became Doug's best friend.
Driving by the airport one day, Doug saw a sign for pilot lessons. Eight months and thousands of dollars later, Doug was a private pilot. He would like to own his own airplane one day, but for now he rents from time to time at the local flying club. His three children have all had turns in the sky, but by this time the band leader had died. The Niagara Express Big Band was no longer operating and Doug never got to take his friend flying. Doug gave up music completely at that time. It was not until late 2005 when Doug finally wanted to start something in music again, and his current project began.
Doug has many and varied interests; here are some of them:
-music (composing, arranging, performing, recording)
-flying airplanes (Cessna 172R)
-flying model rockets
-white-water wilderness canoeing
